Four wickets in four balls from new signing Rob Townsend helped Barkby take the opening day spoils and 30 points at Beeby Road on Saturday.
Having won the toss and decided to bat, Steve Flowers showed his attacking intentions by dispatching the first ball of the game for six.
Flowers struck 47 from only 48 balls before he was given out LBW with the score on 69.
Ben Hollis was also trapped LBW for nine as Barkby started to lose wickets at regular intervals with Waplington bowled without scoring by P. Patel, and Bourke caught for seven, also off Patel.
Townsend made 30 from 50 balls to hold the innings together before he was caught by V. Patel off Odera (131-5). Matt Harby (15) and Tom Robinson helped the home side to reach 167, but this didn’t seem anywhere near a good enough score to defend.
Fine seam bowling by James Kirk and debutant Chris Pick, backed up by some excellent fielding, soon had the visitors in trouble as both openers were run out, while Kirk bowled V. Patel for 0, and Pick trapped N. Patel LBW and bowled Kotecha for 0.
At 48-5, Barkby’s total suddenly looked formidable, and Pick claimed another wicket, ending his 12-over spell with figures of 3 for 34. Bourke bowled six overs for an economical 20 runs.
The game was to end sensationally when Townsend came into the attack and with his last ball of his first over he bowled P. Patel.
He then trapped the last three batsmen LBW with the first three balls of his second over to bundle Leicester out for 89.
Barkby can be well pleased with the performances of new recruits Townsend and Pick playing key parts in their victory, as well as Tom Robinson with 11 not out and some good fielding.
