The exotically named Steele Von Hoff became the second Australian to win the Rutland-Melton International CICLE Classic as he snatched victory in a thrilling sprint finish.

The dry conditions made for a fast race and after an initial breakaway was swallowed up by the main peloton, a leading group of about 50 riders entered the finish at Melton 10 minutes ahead of schedule.

Cornishman Chris Opie, riding for Matt Prior’s ONE Pro Cycling team, seemed to be heading for victory in a bunch sprint finish down Sherrard Street involving about 50 riders, but was pipped on the line by NFTO rider Von Hoff.

Young British rider Harry Tanfield (JLT-Condor) completed the podium.

Polish rider Karol Domagalski (Team Raleigh) won the King of the Bergs prize for amassing the most points on the climbs around Burrough on the Hill and Cold Overton.

Tom Stewart (Madison-Genesis) won his weight in Grainstore beer as the first rider under the banner on the first circuit of Owston, while Alex Paton (Pedal Heaven) won a specially-commissioned pork pie from sponsors Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe as the first rider across the finish line on the first circuit of Melton.

The team prize went to the Continent as Dutch outfit Parkhotel Valkenburg took home the team prize.
