A young couple’s hopes of building a log cabin home in Saxelby have been dashed by Melton Council’s planning committee.
Stephen Knott had applied for planning permission to site the cabin on land opposite Japonica Cottage in Main Street.
The committee heard Mr Knott wanted to move closer to his elderly parents, who own the cottage, to offer support and care and also that the proposal would allow him and his partner to get onto the property ladder by owning their own home.
The council had received letters from eight households supporting Mr Knott’s application.
But the committee unanimously refused it on grounds that the proposed site was identified as a protected open area and that Saxelbye was an unsustainable location for the development.
