Villagers at Ab Kettleby will be able to hear their beloved church bells ring again in the next fortnight after more than two months of silence.
Three new bells have arrived at St James’ to join the existing three and they will shortly be hoisted into position in the bell tower.
And the tower captain has promised residents a more pleasant sound when the new six-strong complement chimes together later this month.
James Lowe said: “People in the village have commented about how much they have missed the church bells.
“Because we have doubled the number of bells and we have added a new tenor bell it will change the key of the peel.
“It will sound much happier in future.”
Two brand new bells were cast back in February and a third one has been re-located from a church in Cornwall.
The bells were donated but members raised £25,000 to pay for the rest of the augmentation work.
There has been a delay in hanging the new bells because part of the frame has to be repaired due to wear and tear.
James added: “Our bellringers have been practising at neighbouring churches and it will be quite special for us to ring our own again soon.”
