The popular painter and decorator and property renovator passed away shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 51.

Mick had been in a relationship with local pub and brewery owner Dianne Login for eight years after both lost their previous partners.

Dianne sold her share in Belvoir Brewery, which she helped build up, to care for her partner after his terminal illness was detected in April.

He died at home on July 15.

As she prepared for Friday’s funeral, at St John’s at 2pm, Dianne said: “We’ve had so many lovely cards.

People have been shocked and saddened that we have lost Mick.”

Before his illness Mick had been renovating the Golden Fleece at Upper Broughton, which Dianne has owned for 30 years.

It is currently closed but she is determined to reopen after Mick’s hard work on the building.

“His last project was working on the Golden Fleece,” said Dianne, of Hickling.

“He’s left a great plan for me and his work won’t be wasted.”

Mick grew up in Melton after being born in the town.

He leaves a brother, David, and sisters, Christine, Trisha and Tracy.

Mick attended The Grove Primary, John Ferneley and King Edward VII Schools.

He lived in Queensway, Old Dalby, for 20 years with his first wife, Patricia, before he was widowed in 2009.

The couple had a son, Scott (27), who is married to Lyndsey.

Dianne lost her partner, Bruce, to a heart attack, and later love blossomed between her and Mick, who had already done some work for her at her various businesses.

She said: “Neither of us were looking for romance. It just happened.

“We both supported each other after losing our partners so suddenly.”

Dianne said: “Mick never moaned if someone called him up needing his help, whatever time it was.

“Three weeks before he fell ill someone called to say they couldn’t get their boiler going.

“He was over there before six to fix it. He was one of life’s givers.”

Long-standing friend Steve Chapman said: “A lot of people talked about his generosity but Mick also had a brilliant sense of humour.”

Friends are invited to the funeral and a wake at Belvoir Brewery after cremation.
