Colleagues from Western Power Distribution’s (WPD) Melton team have built and decorated a very special Christmas tree this year. The ‘pylon’ tree was adorned with related decorations and LED lights and was displayed at St Mary’s Church as part of its Christmas tree festival.
Fitter Phil Saunders, who constructed the ‘tree’ in his garage at home, said: “The design is based on an old-fashioned 33kV tower. It’s made from plywood and painted silver, and it took about three weeks to make in my spare time.”
The tree joined around 1,300 others at the festival, all decorated by local schools, businesses and community groups, in what is thought to be one of the biggest Christmas tree festivals in the country.
Following the festival, the tree will be displayed at WPD’s Grantham office.
