He was Kristian William Stobart, who was 37, and lived in Hose, in the Vale of Belvoir.

Officers from the Leicestershire force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the incident, which happened on Melton Spinney Road, but they are unsure as to the exact time it took place.

Police were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) just after 7.50am on Friday August 24 to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a grey Fiat Punto, which left the road before colliding with a tree and coming to rest in a field.

Det Con Seamus Burns, the investigating officer, said in a recent appeal to the public: “We know that the driver and vehicle left an address sometime after 11pm on Thursday night and although the emergency services were called at around 7.50am the following morning, there is a possibility that the collision may have happened in the hours earlier.

“We want to know if anyone saw the car after 11pm on Thursday night and the time it was reported on Friday?

“Or did they perhaps pass the location and saw damage to the tree or the hedgerow and thought nothing of it at the time?”

Anyone with information about the collision and which could help with the police investigation, is urged to get in touch on 101 quoting incident 111 of August 24.
