NEWSFLASH: Serious road crash in Melton

Three children and two adults were taken to hospital following a serious road crash in Melton this morning.

Two vehicles were in collision on Asfordby Road, close to the entrance to the golf course, shortly before 9am

Five ambulances and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance were quickly on the scene.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) said: “The initial information we received was that there were lots of patients so five double-crewed ambulances were sent to the scene.

“When we arrived there were five patients requiring treatment and they were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

“Two children and one adult were taken to hospital in one ambulance and one child and another adult were taken in another ambulance.

“A third ambulance is still on the scene because there were reports of a sixth person trapped in one of the vehicles.”

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “We got a call at 8.51am to say two vehicles had been in collision.

“The air ambulance is on the scene and there are six casualties - three serious and three with minor injuries.”

The road is closed and traffic is backed up in both directions.
