Melton’s sixth Santa fun run is just a couple of weeks away but you need to sign up today to be sure of your place.
The Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray is organising the event in the country park and hopes 400-plus people of all ages will join in the festive spirit.
Melton Santa fun run or walk – supported by the Melton Times – will be held on Sunday, December 13 starting at 11am over 5km or a one-mile fully marshalled course.
The entry fee £12 for adults and £6 for children aged five-12 (free entry for children aged four and under) will support Rotary charities leaving runners and walkers to raise sponsorship for their chosen charity.
Local companies can also do their bit for charity by sponsoring 10 Santa suits for £50.
You can enter individually or as a family or group and, if you are walking, don’t forget to bring your dog! The course is even suitable for wheelchair users.
A free Santa suit is provided to all paying entrants (early collection of suits is available) and all participants will receive a medal at the finish.
The popular best dressed dog competition returns and new this year with a prize for the winner is a cutest child competition. There will also be hot food and drinks available from the country park cafe.
Last year’s run - which attracted nearly 350 runners - raised over £7,500 benefitting local and national charities such as Macmillan, Marie Curie, Homestart Melton and many more.
Julia Hinde, one of the organisers, said: “Thank you to those who have entered to date supporting Rotary charities CLIC Sargent, St Marys School,Mencap, RSPCA, Girl Guides, Cystic Fibrosis, Macmillan and Air Ambulance.
“We’d also like to thank Melton Town Estate, 103 The Eye, Pets at Home, Mars in the community, PBS office and Truform Buildings.”
“This year our Mayor Jeanne Douglas will start the race and runners will have the warm up elf to get you going prior to the start.
“We have a suit waiting for all, so let’s work together to raise £8,000 and attract over 400 runners.”
