Renovated Melton church shortlisted for coveted design award
It was reopened last winter after being closed for 11 months to enable work to level the floor, install new heating and lighting, toilets and a kitchen area, among many other features.
And the biggest overhaul of the church in 200 years has put it in line to win the coveted Presidents’ Award at the 2018 Church Architecture Awards.

Hide AdSt Mary’s is one of six on the shortlist, with St Mark Church, in Clerkenwell; Ealing Green Church in London; St Comghan’s Chapel, Kilchoan, in Scotland; St Edmund King and Martyr Church at Southwold; and St Michael and All Angels, at Oxford.
Winner of the accolade, which is for new church buildings and re-orderings, extensions or alterations to existing church buildings, will be announced by the Duke of Gloucester at a presentation ceremony at St Mellitus College, in London, on Thursday November 1.
