A special event will be held next month in a bid to enlist more volunteers to work with Girlguiding groups in Melton.

An evening of cream tea and summer punch will be served at the ‘meet and greet’ at the Samworth Centre in Burton Street, between 7pm and 9pm on Monday August 10.

It is being organised by Girlguiding Leicestershire, which will also have members available in Melton’s Market Square on Saturday

August 1 to talk about their volunteering experiences and to hand out information to shoppers.

A spokesperson said: “Girlguiding welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds, ages, cultures, faiths and abilities, and a variety of flexible roles are available.

“By giving just one or two hours a week, volunteers can help local girls and young women to enjoy a wide range of exciting activities, as well as acquire new skills and experiences – and have fun at the same time.”

The recruitment drive events are being run thanks to a £150,000 grant from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, which supports charities and good causes throughout the country.
