Kettles will be boiling in unison across the Melton borough next month for the ever popular The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning - Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest fundraising event.
The Melton Mowbray Macmillan Cancer Support committee is appealing for more individuals, groups and businesses across the borough to get brewing in support of next month’s big event on Friday, September 25.
Melton group member Janet Gilchrist said: “Last year across the UK a record £25 million was raised from coffee mornings.
“This year we hope to see as many coffee mornings in the area as last year or even more.
“We ask people to hold a coffee morning where donations on the day are made to Macmillan.”
Locally the Macmillan committee is helping to organise these events.
“If you would like to help and get together with friends, family and colleagues on Friday, September 25, log onto the Macmillan website www.macmillan.org.uk and sign up for a kit which will get you started with all the information and materials to make your coffee morning a success,” said Janet.
The first ever coffee morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea.
Guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. Since then, coffee morning has raised over £138 million for Macmillan.
l Any people/places planning to hold events on the day are being asked to let the Melton group know by calling Janet on (01664) 560961.
The Melton Times will also publish details of events where possible.
