A fun family day organised by community-minded staff from Mars Petcare’s Melton manufacturing plant has raised £1,200 for the Hounds for Heroes charity.
The ‘Pounds for Hounds’ event, which aimed to raise funds to provide assistance dogs for injured service personnel, was held at Melton Country Park on Tuesday and saw around 300 people turn up for some outdoor entertainment.
Attractions on the day included two bouncy castles, family fun activities with goody bags and prizes, a scavenger hunt, quiz challenge, bake sale, charity dog wash and a ‘Have a go’ dog agility course.
There were also demonstrations by military working dogs and a working fire engine.
The fundraising event was the brainchild of a team of associates from the Mars Petcare manufacturing plant in Melton. It was organised by staff from yellow shift as part of a team volunteering day and 24-hour fundraising challenge.
Tom Webster and Pete Wakefield, members of the Mars Petcare team, said: “It was an incredible day enjoyed by all who attended.
“We’d like to thank all of the local businesses who supported us by donating prizes and gifts and a special thanks must be given to Michael Connolly for letting us use the facilities at the visitor centre.”
