Community-minded staff from Mars Petcare’s Melton manufacturing plant have helped organise a summer family fun day in the town to raise funds for the Hounds for Heroes charity.
The ‘Pounds for Hounds’ event will be held near the Melton Country Park visitor centre on Tuesday (July 21) from 9.30am. Attractions will include bouncy castles, family fun activities with goody bags and prizes, a scavenger hunt/quiz challenge alongside the charity dog wash and a ‘Have a go’ dog agility course.
There will also be demonstrations by military working dogs and children will be able to see a working fire engine. There will also be a barbecue and bake sale.
The fundraising event was the brainchild of a team of associates from the Mars Petcare manufacturing plant in Melton. It has been organised by staff from yellow shift as part of a team volunteering day and 24-hour fundraising challenge.
In the past they’ve completed tasks for local schools and charities but this year the team decided to put on the Pounds for Hounds event.
Pete Wakefield, local retained fireman and a member of the Mars Petcare team, said: “The purpose of Hounds for Heroes is to provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK armed forces and the emergency services.
“Through this provision the charity aims to provide help and practical support leading to an enhanced quality of life to injured or disabled servicemen and women.
“The whole team were passionate about wanting to do something worthwhile to raise money for this worthy cause. It also resonated with us because of the connections to the military in our own home town”.
