UPDATE: A606 set to reopen to southbound traffic only from noon on Thursday following landslip
As reported in last week’s Melton Times Leicestershire County Council closed the A606 at Nether Broughton following the landslip between Nether Broughton and Ab Kettleby.
A county council spokesman said: “Immediately following the landslip a structural engineer visited the site together with resources to remove the debris from the carriageway. The initial structural assessment determined that there was still movement within the embankment. To ensure the safety of highway users and to allow time to explore remedial options a short term closure has been put in place.

“Current work involves further assessments being carried out on the stability of the embankment. Subject to the findings of these assessments it is intended that the carriageway will be re-opened in one direction, southbound, from midday on Thursday. This will enable necessary investigatory works to be undertaken on the embankment in a safe manner and to determine the most appropriate remedial actions to be taken.
“The A606 will be opened to traffic travelling south from the A46 toward Melton. Traffic travelling northbound from Melton along the A606 will be diverted left into Six Hills Lane on leaving Ab Kettleby and directed to Six Hills before accessing the A46. Access to Nether Broughton is then via the A46.”
