Rutland and Melton MP Sir Alan Duncan (Con) has been appointed as Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Prime Minister Theresa May’s new Government.
Sir Alan will serve under Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and takes on responsibility for Britain’s relationship with Europe and the Americas.
The role marks a return to Government for Sir Alan following his decision to stand down from his previous role as Minister for International Development in 2014.
Since then he has served as a backbench MP on the Intelligence and Security Committee and as the UK’s Special Envoy to Yemen.
Sir Alan said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Foreign Office Minister at such a crucial time. I look forward to getting stuck into the role and serving from the frontbench once again.”
