Flags were flown in Melton to commemorate two historic moments this week.

Mayor of Melton Jeanne Douglas hoisted the Red Ensign at the borough council’s Parkside offices on Thursday to commemorate the national Merchant Navy Day and to raise awareness of the UK’s ongoing dependence on Merchant Navy seafarers.

And yesterday the mayor commemorated Queen Elizabeth II becoming the longest-serving monarch in the history of the UK and the Commonwealth. The milestone was marked by the flying of the Union Flag at Parkside, flanked by the Melton Council Flag and County Flag.
