Campaigners against a planned development of up to 66 new homes at Rearsby are celebrating after councillors refused it.
Members of the planning committee at Charnwood Borough Council took the advice of their officers in reaching their decision on the scheme, which was proposed on a pasture field off Melton Road.
Among those who protested against the plans was former England Rugby World Cup winner, Neil Back, who feared the extra homes would ruin the rural aspect of the village and spoil the quality of life of residents.
The planners agreed, saying the Jelson Homes scheme would have an adverse impact on the landscape and the Rearsby conservation area.
They felt it would have resulted in the loss of good quality agricultural land, there were highway concerns and the village primary school would be also be unable to cope with the extra demand.
