Pair get ready for record breaking US cycle ride

TWO friends are gearing up for a world record breaking attempt by cycling down and then across America, raising thousands for charity.

Will Loxton, of Colston Bassett, and Christian Layton-Hannam, of Spalding, Lincolnshire, will cover more than 4,600 miles by cycling from north to south America and then west to east.

Accompanied by a support team, they aim to complete their ride in 40 days, beating the current Guinness World Record for the feat (44hrs, 1min, 26secs).

They’ll need to pedal an average of 120 miles a day after setting off on August 21.

Will (24) said: “I’ve always wanted to do something which pushes the physical boundaries. For my training I’ve been trying to cycle an average of 70 miles a day.”

The pair hope to raise £10,000 for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Will added: “We start in Blaine, Washington, a small town on the north-west border with Canada, cycling down the spine of the US to the border with Mexico. We’ll then drive back up to Los Angeles to begin the second leg from the west to east coast.”
