Jean Kemp, of Hall Drive, Asfordby, has been branded ‘outstanding’ for the second consecutive time following a recent inspection.

The former Asfordby Captains Close Primary School chair governor will have been childminding 25 years in September. She was given the highest rating by a government inspector for the effectiveness of the leadership and management and the contribution of the provision to the children’s well-being.

Jean said: “I’m delighted and surprised to be awarded outstanding and I feel lucky to work with amazing, supportive families.

“I love working with children, each day is different and rewarding and it’s a privilege to see children grow, develop and become independent.”

Ofsted inspector Alexandra Brouder visited Jean’s home to carry out observations and to speak with parents in January, before later publishing her report and rating.

She also examined documentation and evaluated the standard of teaching.

Miss Brouder said: “The childminder’s enthusiasm and outstanding teaching inspire all children. They eagerly join in, concentrate and persevere in all activities. The childminder skilfully interacts with children. Her clear explanations and questions enhance their thinking skills.

“Children are highly valued and their individuality is clearly respected and celebrated. Close, loving relationships have formed with all children. They are warmly welcomed into the home as part of the childminder’s extended family.”

Jean is a trained primary school teacher and cares for children from birth to 13. She offers a service all year round from 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, except bank holidays and family holidays. She sometimes works with an assistant and provides funded early education for two, three and four-year-old children.

Miss Brouder added: “Children are making excellent progress in their learning and development. The childminder and her assistant use rigorous and accurate observations of children’s learning to assess their skills. Activities are challenging. They are tailored to children’s individual interests, which makes them excited to learn.

“To improve the childminder should extend the range of opportunities to enable children to measure and compare as they develop their early mathematical skills.”
