An investigation has been launched by the RSPCA after the bodies of dogs and cats were removed from a house in Melton on Sunday.

The animal welfare organisation was alerted after local residents became concerned for animals kept at the house in St Peter’s Walk.

Over the last 24 hours there’s been an outpouring of anger and anguish among local animal lovers, a number of whom have taken to Facebook to share their views, claiming the animals had been left to starve.

An RSPCA spokesman said today: “Two RSPCA inspectors removed several deceased animals including cats and dogs from a house in Melton Mowbray after receiving a call yesterday afternoon (Sunday, March 8).

“The RSPCA is currently investigating what happened to the animals and so cannot comment further at this stage.”

Local residents said the property was home to pets including three dogs, two cats, two snakes and two giant rabbits.
