New classes attract record number of entries at Whissendine Craft and Produce Show

It was another record year at Whissendine Craft and Produce Show with 737 exhibits from 116 exhibitors.

New classes included the longest runner bean, the prettiest gourd, the largest sunflower head and the ugliest vegetable. There was also a whole section dedicated to ‘home brewing.’

Show official David Penny said: “It is amazing how many talented people live in Whissendine in terms of art, craft, baking, photography and of course growing wonderful flowers and impressive vegetables.

“St Andrew’s Church looked magnificent, with so much colour, and lots of people gathered when Sir Laurence Howard congratulated everyone who had entered and awarded the prizes.”

A list of all prize winners is available on the Whissendine village website but three prize winners to note are John Clift Hill, who won the Edmunds Trophy for most points in the show, Leo Tatham, who won the Junior Shield (aged four to eight), and Kyanne Wardhaugh, who won the Junior Shield (aged nine to 16).
