Members of the local Royal British Legion branch and military organisations were in attendance at the event, outside the borough council offices on Parkside.
There was also a short service and blessing of the flag by Deacon Alison McCauley before it was raised at 11am by Sgt Whyte MBE.
The event was also attended by members of the public.
