Melton employee to tackle one of world's toughest races in aid of Cancer Research UK

Gary Postle will be part of a team formed by one of Saint-Gobain PAM UK’s major customers, Wolseley UK, which will be taking part in the ‘Yukon River Quest - Race to the Midnight Sun’ on July 3.

Held annually in the Yukon Province of North West Canada, the 444-mile non-stop race is considered to be one of the toughest challenges possible in the sporting calendar. As the world’s longest annual canoe and kayak race, it features on a list of the top 10 toughest races in the world.

Gary, who had lived in Melton all of his life until recently moving to Nottinghamshire, works as a national key account manager for Saint-Gobain PAM UK. His family and friends still live in the Melton area.

He said: “As a team we’re hoping to raise £100,000 for Cancer Research UK - a charity which is close to almost everyone’s hearts.

“We earned one of the limited number of places through lots of training for a fitness test which took place for all applicants during a weekend in January.

“But that was only the start and I have since spent many hours on rowing machines as well as swimming, running and weightlifting to maximise my fitness. I’ve also participated in two training weekends in Scotland.”

Gary, who has previously run two London Marathons, hopes to raise as much as he can in sponsorship for his epic charity challenge.
