Fans of Melton-born performer Howard Rose are already rallying support after he made it through to the live shows of BBC1 singing talent show The Voice.

Howard triumphed in Sunday’s knockout rounds, making it into the top three of Sir Tom Jones’ team (Team Tom), after belting out a punchy rendition of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Proud Mary.

Some of Melton’s residents have already started to put up ‘Vote Howard’ posters in their windows ahead of the public vote on this Saturday’s show.

Howard (28), a former Brownlow Primary School and John Ferneley College student, was the last of eight contestants to sing for a place on Team Tom and was over the moon to be picked.

He also received top praise from rival coach Will i Am who said: “Tom’s team is looking really strong because he has Howard and because you never know what he is going to do. Every time he performs he blows you away. The competition is on because Howard is that super.”

Howard said: “I had no idea I was going to be chosen. I felt a huge sense of relief when Sir Tom called my name.

“I’m over the moon to have made it this far and I’m even more driven and focused on winning the show than I was when I first entered.

“I think at this stage of the competition it came down to preference as there were plenty of other good singers left in the competition.”

Howard said that he continues to be overwhelmed by the support of his family, friends and the people of Melton.

He said: “I don’t sing like everyone else and I think this is a good thing as the competition moves forward.

“The next song I’m going to sing will be a modern choice with plenty of energy. I will also be playing my guitar which I feel will add to the pressure.”

The live quarter-finals of The Voice will continue on Saturday on BBC1 at 7.15pm.
