There was another high standard of competition at the fourth Asfordby Parish arts, garden produce and crafts show on Saturday.
The event in the Parish Hall attracted 562 entries which were entered in 112 different classes. They included vegetables, flowers, homecrafts, photography and a junior section.
Three best in show trophies were awarded to Mrs Wendy Parrot for best grown exhibit, Mrs S Dawson for best arts and crafts exhibit and the junior section was won by Ava Groom.
The trophies were presented by Mr R Pearce, deputy head of Asfordby Captains Close School and the judges were Mr M Eaton, Mr M W Jones, Mr M Bryan, Mrs M Burton, Mrs J Manship, Mrs N Birch, Mrs J Eggleston and Mr M Johnson.
David Robinson treasurer of the show said: “The day was excellent and featured lots of different entrants including the children of Captains Close School.
“The judges all agreed that the standards were high. Most of them have been with us for the four years and will be back next year.
“We also had a raffle, tombola, bran tub (lucky dip), refreshments and a flower sale.
“As we do not charge for entry we don’t know how many people visited the show but based on raffle ticket sales it was very well attended.
“We’re not a profit making organisation and our aim is to raise funds to cover costs. Each year we give donations mainly to village organisations.
“In the past, this has included Bradgate Flats, Asfordby Brownies, Captains Close School, Rainbows and others. This year’s recipients will be decided at our annual general meeting in October.”
