Alex Heyward, 30, has decided to take on the 400 mile challenge after his mum beat breast cancer in 2011 with the help of many affliated charities.

Alex, who works as a farmer and lorry driver for Buttercup Feeds, said: “I looked to do this ride with one of the many organised groups until I discovered the first £700 donated does not go to the charity but pays for your place on the ride. For that reason, I have chosen to go it alone and ensure every penny raised goes directly to breast cancer charities.”

Alex’s route starts on Sunday, May 29, from Leicester’s Clock Tower. On day one he will ride 120 miles to The Tower of London and day two, 60 miles down to Newhaven. The next day is a 75 mile ferry crossing to Dieppe which he will simulate on a rolling road before cycling 40 miles to Forges Les Eaux. Day four, Wednesday, June 1, will see him riding the final 100 miles into the French capital to the foot of the iconic landmark, The Eiffel Tower.

The money raised will be split between Breast Cancer Care - the only UK wide specialist support charity and the New Zealand Breast Cancer Care Foundation as Alex’s mum lives in New Zealand.
