The 10 1⁄4 inch gauge railway was due to host its public models and miniatures weekend in June and a vintage steam rally in August, but these events have both been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement from Friends of Stapleford Miniature Railway said: “It has been necessary to bring forward decisions on our 2020 operations due to the rapidly changing outlook.

“Regretfully it has been decided that in the interests of everyone our planned events for this year must be cancelled.

“This also includes the Railway Challenge, which has already been postponed.

“This is obviously a huge disappointment but a decision that, in reality, has been taken out of our own hands by the rapid developments of the last few days.”
