Despite being a little off the pace this time in terms of his personal best, Richard Norton, a restaurant manager, said he’s motivated to keep going.

“I’ve signed up for 2019, 2020 and 2021”, said Richard.

“I’m going to run for RNLI next year.”

The forty-three-year-old completed the 13.1-mile Newcastle course in a time just over two hours, his fourth best time but second best placement.

He has raised £500 for The Royal British Legion, a cause close to his heart as he helped fund the last Melton Remembrance Day parade by running back-to-back sponsored marathons.

Richard added: “I had an incredible day, the weather was really good. A little too good maybe. Very hot, a lot of people struggled with heat, dehydration and fatigue.

“With record numbers of runners and spectators we all had trouble with getting signals for our GPS watches and running apps as well.”
