New project launches in Melton to reduce social isolation

A unique project is launching in Melton to support older people who are socially isolated.

Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland is running the project called Brighter Futures at Gloucester House Resource Centre.

Brighter Futures, funded by Melton Borough Council, will be a series of four week workshops offering people the chance to meet up with peers, enjoy lunch together and get involved in activities which build skills, new hobbies and interests.

Brighter Futures Co-ordinator, Jane Cowan said: “We are very excited at the prospect of bringing such an innovative project to Melton Mowbray.

“There is a clear need for older people to keep active and the project will provide information on services and activities available locally and how to access them.

“Our aim is to help older people enjoy later life independently and for as long as possible.”

The first four week programme will be held on Thursday, June 9. They are free but participants will be requested to make a £5 contribution to lunch and refreshments.
