New Night Rider bus hits Melton's roads for trial period

The Melton Night Rider pilot is a Melton BID and Purple Flag initiative, in partnership with Centrebus to improve access to the town centre in the evening, which will hopefully increase footfall and support evening economy businesses.

The service started on Friday 21 st October and will run every Friday and Saturday evening from St Mary’s Way until Friday December 23.

A single flat rate of £2 will be charged for the service.

Chair of the Melton BID, Andrew Cooper said “The aim of the pilot is to improve access to the town centre in the evening, which will hopefully increase footfall and support evening economy businesses.

“We really hope that residents and visitors take advantage of this service over the next months.

“If this pilot is successful, this is potentially a service then that may be continued and developed in 2017.”

During the two-month pilot the Night Rider will be running on a town north and town south route.

The town north route will see the first bus leave St Mary’s Way in Melton at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays and then make stops at Wycliffe Avenue (8.04pm), Tennyson Way (8.08pm), Sysonby Street (8.20pm) before arriving back at St Mary’s Way at 8.27pm.

Later buses will also depart from St Mary’s Way at 9pm, 11pm, midnight and 1am, following the same town north route.

The town south route will see the first bus leave St Mary’s Way at 8.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays and then make stops at Grange Drive (8.35pm), Queensway (8.40pm), Tamar Road (8.45pm), Valley Road (8.49pm) before arriving back at St Mary’s Way at 8.55pm.

Later buses, following the same town south route, will depart from St Mary’s Way at 8.30pm, 9.30pm, 10.30pm, 11.30pm, 12.30am and 1.30am.
