Two mums who met in the school playground in Bottesford and found they shared a love of cycling have started organising cycling events for women across the Vale of Belvoir.

Emma Roberts and Britta Bayman were disillusioned with cycle sportive in the area and found that most of the events they entered were too competitive.

That’s when they decided to form ‘Two Wheels and a Piece of Cake’ and form their own cycling events aimed at being sociable and fun.

Emma said: “We want to provide the opportunity to share our love of cycling, and cake, with other riders in a supportive environment.

“Our events are much more about being social, having fun and enjoying the exercise.

“No map reading is required, as the routes are well sign-posted and supported by medics and mechanics.

“There is a choice of route lengths so riders can choose a distance that will challenge them, and give them a sense of achievement.”

Their next women’s cycling event is on Sunday, June 7 starting at Hose Village Hall.

Britta said: “The Belles of Belvoir’ ladies only noncompetitive sportive is supported by British Cycling and there are already 75 people signed up for it.

“We can’t guarantee sunshine, but we can promise a great day out. It would be great if we could get 100 riders to take part.”
