Veterans and their families with a connection to the Merchant Navy are being invited to a special event in Melton.
Merchant Navy Day, on September 3 at the Melton Council offices, has been organised to honour the brave men and women who served with the commercial shipping service during the world wars to help the country survive.
A Red Ensign flag - which was adopted by the British Merchant Navy in 1984 - will be flown at the Parkside-based council on the day.
Mayor of Melton, Councillor Jeanne Douglas, will be hosting the event.
She said: “I would like anyone in our community involved with the Merchant Navy -families and veterans - who would be interested in participating in a short commemorative event to mark Merchant Navy Day to contact me via the Mayor’s office.”
The Mayor can be contacted at Mayor@melton.gov.uk or on 01664 502314.
September 3 was the date when the Second World War began and when Britain had its first maritime casualty.
