Melton Times Community Awards: We reveal some of those put forward so far

We've had dozens of nomination forms sent in putting forward deserving people and causes for a Melton Times Community Award.

From people who go out of their way to help others to shining examples of customer service, there are some amazing people nominated so far.

This week, we can reveal some more of our 2016 nominees. They are:

* Alan Pearson for Best Arts, Sports or Community Project

* Pete Wilkinson and Kelly Spencer for Best Arts, Sports or Community Project

* Women’s Section of the Royal British Legion for Community Champion and Community Spirit awards

* Martin McQuade, The Grove Primary School, for Top Teacher

We hold the awards every year to give special recognition to those wonderful people in the Melton area who who selflessly devote their time and efforts to benefit their community.

You have until 5pm on Monday, September 26 to make your nominations.

We are inviting readers to nominate a person/group/organisation they feel is deserving of recognition for all they have achieved or for their dedicated service.

Once the closing date for nominations has passed, judges will choose a shortlist for each category.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a gala evening and presentation at Melton Vale Post-16 Centre in Burton Road, on Thursday, October 13.

CHILD OF COURAGE, Available for sponsorship. For a youngster who has overcome adversity such as a serious illness or disability or supported and cared for a parent in those circumstances

YOUNG ACHIEVER, Sponsored by Tesco. For a talented young person destined for great things

YOUNG CHAMPION, Sponsored by Melton Borough Council. For a young person who has made a big contribution through voluntary work or by using their talents to help others

COMMUNITY CHAMPION, Sponsored by Melton BID. For someone who has, through their selfless efforts, helped a good cause or a relative or neighbour. They may be a charity fundraiser or a carer

ENVIRONMENT AWARD, Sponsored by Melton Mowbray Town Estate. Who is making your community safer or brightening up your neighbourhood?

BEST ARTS, SPORTS OR COMMUNITY PROJECT, Sponsored by Costco. For a project which is making a real difference

TOP TEACHER, Sponsored by Samworth Brothers. For someone who is an inspiration and role model. This could be a teacher, sports coach or youth group leader

SERVICE WITH A SMILE, Sponsored by Bentons. For someone for whom nothing is too much trouble – kindness, dedication and a smile are the watchwords

COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD, Sponsored by Mars Petcare. For a person or group who has done something extraordinary for the good of Melton
