A schoolgirl organised a supermarket bag-packing effort which raised more than £800 towards her planned community aid trip to Borneo.

Sian Nolan, a Year 11 pupil at John Ferneley College in Melton, wants to visit the south-east Asian island next summer with current and former students.

She needs to raise £3,960 to be able to go and half of that money will pay for various local initiatives while she is out there.

Sian said: “When I am in Borneo I will be taking part in various beach clean-ups, a re-forestation project and working with the community building schools.

“The trip is four weeks long and in this time we will be travelling around to different camps over the island.

“It was amazing to raise £801 with our bag-packing weekend at Morrisons in Melton. We’re grateful to the staff and would like to thank everyone who contributed to our fund.”
