An enthusiastic role model for young people living in Melton has pledged to provide more support for teenagers during exam season.

Tara Dudhia (15), who was elected Young Mayor for Melton in November, wants to implement a better support system for school pupils sitting exams in the summer as well as providing greater awareness of sporting opportunities within the borough.

Tara said: “My main aspiration is to offer extra support for youngsters during exams such as a clinic whereby pupils can get help and advice managing stress.

“I’ve also met various people from the local leisure centre and we are deciding on which sports they can offer during the summer holidays.”

Tara, who attends John Ferneley College, has her own GCSEs to sit in summer but is determined to strike the right balance between her future and council duties.

She added: “I’ve managed a good balance between school and the council. It’s extremely important that young people have a voice, as this promotes a sense of belonging and pride in our town.”

Tara is also supporting a ‘Cleaning up Melton’ campaign to brighten and liven up the town in 2015.
