Members of The Inn Sign Society from around the country gathered at the Belvoir Brewery for their annual general meeting.
Those who attended discussed issues relating to the society and elected a new committee for the coming year.
The winner of the Pub Sign of the Year was also announced. A few Melton pubs were considered but the Old Hunters Tavern in Stalybridge, Lancashire, was crowned the winner.
The competition is run by the society and members submit photos of signs they consider suitable for the award. The sign has to be clean, have some local or historic significance and the pub has to be trading.
Publicity offier for The Inn Sign Society Peter Gorman said: “Melton Mowbray has a good selection of pubs with great signs. Of note is the Ann of Cleves, not only is this a double sided sign, there is also a 3D sign of the church side of the pub.
Other pubs displaying good signs include The Boat, Generous Britton, Mash Tub and Kettleby Cross. At the rate pubs are closing, a lot of history is being lost and great signs – the nations original street art, are being lost as well.
