Melton Mencap urgently needs more trustees to help to manage the charity which works with people with learning disabilities.
A spokesman said: “Trustees are essential to ensure the charity is properly run. Without the required number we’d be terminated by the charity commissioners. In summary, trustees do everything necessary to ensure Melton Mencap looks after the interests of service users and their carers, the staff and volunteers, the building and assets and our profile in the local community. Basic requirements are an interest in helping with this work, an ability to be a good team member and to satisfy checking and barring procedures (previously CRB checks). Knowledge of learning disability isn’t necessary but we expect all to have a positive attitude to believe that everyone has an equal right to the highest quality of life regardless of ability.”
A minimum requirement for a trustee is to attend approximately one two-hour executive meeting each quarter and the annual general meeting.
