Rain failed to dampen the spirits as crowds of people gathered in Melton's Play Close park on Sunday to share in a feast of entertainment to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

There was live music, entertainment, family and children’s activities and plenty more besides for all to enjoy.

Villages across the borough held their own celebrations at the weekend while elsewhere in the town residents got into the spirit by hosting their own street parties.

Local schoolchildren also played their part, with hundreds of drawings and paintings of the Queen being entered into a special competition organised by Melton Council.

Melton Town Centre manager Shelagh Core said: “There was a lovely atmosphere in the park on Sunday, with a ‘street party’ kind of feel.

“It was marred a bit by the weather in the afternoon but it didn’t stop people from having a good time.”
