Cadets are already enrolled on to the VPC programme, but five committed leaders are needed in order for the unit to run effectively.

Sergeant Danny Graham, lead for cadets, said: “The Volunteer Police Cadet programme is growing from strength to strength, however this is not possible without its leaders.

“The Melton cadets are quickly progressing through the programme, and I’m confident we can find some strong leaders to support the unit.”

The programme aims to promote a practical understanding of policing among young people. Cadets are young people aged 13-17 with a keen interest in policing. They play a vital role in helping Leicestershire Police to serve its communities.

Successful leaders will need to regularly attend VPC evenings, help plan the programme with Sgt Graham, actively support social action volunteering in the community and be a positive role model. Anyone over the age of 16 can apply, and successful candidates will be subject to vetting.
