Melton borough councillor Gary Bush has pleaded not guilty to two charges of benefit fraud.
Mr Bush entered his not guilty pleas when appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court earlier today (Thursday, April 2).
He is charged with failing to notify Melton Council of changes in his circumstances, affecting his entitlement to claim council tax benefit, between July 18, 2011 and January 1, 2012. It’s alleged Mr Bush failed the notify the council he was in full-time paid employment.
Mr Bush, of Grange Drive, is also charged with failing to notify the council of changes in his circumstances, affecting his entitlement to claim council tax benefit, between October 29, 2012 and January 31, 2013. It’s alleged Mr Bush failed to notify the council he was in receipt of pension income.
Mr Bush (57), who denies both charges, has elected for his case to be heard at Leicester Crown Court.
His case was adjourned until April 16 for a preliminary hearing at the crown court.
