Pupils at Long Field Academy have been taking part in a variety of activities to raise awareness of Red Hand Day.
Red Hand Day is an annual commemoration drawing attention to the plight of children forced to serve as soldiers in wars and armed conflicts.
Children in year seven and eight organised a cake raffle on Friday, and are planning to create an enormous wall display of the whole school’s red hand prints.
English teacher Michael Hardy said: “The children have been learning and writing about global conflict and they wanted to do something to show their support for this worldwide initiative to stop the use of child soldiers.”
Year eight Ruby Ladjimi (12), said: “As a school we wanted to do something positive and get everyone involved to raise awareness of this important day.”
