A team of residential volunteers from The Lodge Trust in Market Overton, near Melton, have been supporting businesses in the town to demonstrate their skills and raise awareness of national Learning Disability Week (June 19-25).
On Monday they painted some furniture out the back at More Coffee Co, on Wednesday they helped at Storehouse at The Fox Inn and today they’re volunteering at the community allotment in Melton County Park.
The Lodge Trust exists to make a Christian provision for adults with learning disabilities and is registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care (but doesn’t provide nursing care).
The group are coordinating a Learning Disability Awareness Day in front of the cafe at Melton Country Park, on Saturday, from 1-4pm, with support from Melton Mowbray Mencap Society, Birch Wood School and Melton Council.
The purpose of this free event is to celebrate Melton’s diversity and the amount of great activities going on for everyone in the town. It will include a dog training demonstration from Dogs Trust, pamper treatments, a tombola, stalls, face painting, sports activities, Leicester City Football Club’s Community Trust skill school and a sensory quiz with prices.
