Crews from Melton, Birstall and Leicester’s Eastern station attended the incident, on Barsby Road, with a water carrier from Loughborough.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, which received an emergency call at 2.29pm, said: “Metal storage containers and an adjacent pile of logs were involved in fire and crews attempted to prevent it spreading by using a hose reel with a covering jet.

“Access was gained into the container and the fire was extinguished but due to the high winds the fire in the log pile had spread.

“On-site farm machinery was used to spread out the affected log pile.”
