So we ask you to join us once again to take part in this simple task of giving.

To help with the appeal, all you need to do is pop into Melton Computers, in Market Place, to collect a free flat pack box and fill it with those everyday essentials that most of us take for granted.

Once filled, please return the shoeboxes to St Mary’s Church in Melton.

The boxes go to Eastern Europe to be given to children of all ages and also includes teenagers and the elderly. The items we may take for granted in our daily lives can make a huge difference to those who have no means of getting such things. It lets them know that someone, somewhere cares.

So what can you put in these boxes?

Suitable items for this year’s Rotary shoeboxes for a child includes: toys such as matchbox cars, bouncy balls, dolls, colouring books and felt tips, jigsaw puzzles and Lego (but please avoid sweets, chocolates and toys that require batteries). For a child, this might be the first present they have ever received.

For a box that would be ideal for a teenager, why not fill it with make-up, toiletries, a comb, writing essentials or even sports wear?

Of if you want your box to go to an elderly person, why not add in some vital household goods – hand soap, toothpaste and brushes, pen and paper or even washing powder and shampoo?

When your box is full, we ask that this year you please attach £2 and tape it to the top of the box – this covers the cost of transporting the gifts. Filled boxes must be returned by Friday, November 13.

Rotary International is urging people like you to help bring a ray of hope to those who have lost the sight of it, so please give someone the ultimate gift to put that smile back on their face.
