Heartbroken family and friends of a mum-of-three who died in a road collision near Melton have organised a day of fundraising to raise funds to enable her children to visit Disneyland Paris.

Michelle Davies, who was killed in October when her car collided with a lorry on the A606 between Melton and Oakham, left behind her three children Levi (9), Aeron (8) and Nevaeh (2).

Now Michelle’s loved ones are carrying out her wish to take the children on holiday to Disneyland Paris by organising a festive day of fundraising on Sunday (December 14) at Melton Training Centre Ltd, on North Street.

The event, which is free to enter and will run from 10am-2pm, will feature a jumble sale, tombola, face painting, raffle prizes, craft stalls, cake stalls, a Santa’s grotto, Disneyland characters and refreshments.

Several Melton businesses have heavily supported the day and have been donating gifts in the lead-up to the event which include tombola prizes, coats, jewellery, books, cakes and alcohol.

Michelle’s step-mum, Shelagh Foreman, said: “We’d like as many people as possible to come a long and have some fun to celebrate her life. Michelle was an extremely loving mother who absolutely doted on the children.

“I am absolutely overwhelmed by the support and generosity of everyone who has helped us make this day possible. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that the children will hopefully remember forever.

“I would like to thank all the businesses who have donated, Sandra Shelton, Natasha Miller, Kath Thurley for being an amazing friend to Michelle and all of the wonderful staff at Melton Training Centre.

“I know that if Michelle was still alive she would be amazed and overwhelmed by how many people have rallied round to help.”

Shelagh said the family is planning to take the three children to Disneyland Paris in the New Year and that if enough money was raised they would consider taking them to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The remainder of the money will be saved for the children as a university fund.
