Eighty seven people across the Melton area suffered injuries while at work in 2013/14 according to figures released this week by safety watchdog the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The HSE figures also estimated that 1,200 people across Melton (local authority area) were made ill through their work over the same period.

The watchdog is now appealing to Melton businesses, and others across Leicestershire and Rutland, to make the well-being of workers their top priority for the new year and to review whether they can do more to protect their workforce.

The HSE data showed that those involved in construction, manufacturing and waste and recycling are most at risk of injury, with areas of particular concern including falls from height, work on machinery that is poorly maintained and failing to properly manage workplace transport.
