A progress report ahead of the launch of a new urgent care service for Melton patients will be given at a meeting in the town on Tuesday (March 17).

The new urgent care service, due to launch on April 1, is for people who need medical help quickly for minor injuries and illnesses, but not life-threatening emergencies.

During GP opening hours, Melton people with minor injuries and illnesses will visit their GP.

There will also be an urgent care centre in Melton Hospital which will provide minor injury/illness services on weekdays from 5pm to 9pm and on weekends and bank holidays from 9am to 7pm.

The NHS East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group (ELRCCG) - which is responsible for planning and paying for local health services and which has commissioned the new urgent care service - is inviting members of the public to attend its meeting which will be held at the Pera Innovation Park in Nottingham Road at 9am on Tuesday.

There will be an update report about the progress of the mobilisation and Northern Doctors Urgent Care, the main provider of these services at the urgent care centres across East Leicestershire and Rutland. Representatives of Northern Doctors Urgent Care will also be at the meeting to answer questions.

The agenda will also include an update on the progress and improvements made following the publication of Learning Lessons to Improve Care Review in July 2014. The review focused on care received by patients in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland between March 2012 and June 2013, looking at the care they had received before admission to hospital, during their stay in hospital and after being discharged, including care from local GP and social care services.

There will also be a separate report about Healthwatch Leicestershire’s recent first-hand observations of care at Leicester hospitals.

Those attending will have an opportunity to ask questions about items on the agenda. People unable to attend can submit questions in advance by e-mailing

Papers for the meeting will be available before the event on ELRCCG’s website.
