A GP surgery which cares for 6,300 patients has been rated as “good” for providing caring, effective and responsive services.
However inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) gave the Long Clawson Medical Practice in Long Clawson an overall rating of “requires improvement.”
They said the practice must ensure formal processes are in place to assess and monitor risks and quality of service provision. They also said it must ensure recruitment arrangements include all necessary employment checks for all staff and staff should also make sure blank prescription pads are handled according to national guidelines.
However, inspectors who visited the surgery in May, found patients were cared for with compassion, dignity and respect. Results from the national patient survey in January revealed that 100 per cent of respondents said they would recommend their GP surgery to someone who had just moved to the local area and 99 per cent described the overall experience of their GP surgery as ‘good’.
In their report, inspectors said: “We observed members of staff were courteous and very helpful to patients and treated them with dignity and respect. All the 35 patient CQC comment cards we received were positive about the service experienced.
“Patients said they felt the practice offered an excellent service and staff were helpful, caring and treated them with dignity and respect.”
They added that patients told them ‘they felt listened to and supported by staff and had sufficient time during consultations to make an informed decision about the choice of treatment available to them.’
Inspectors also rated the practice “good” for being effective and responsive.
They said: “Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver effective care and treatment. Services were planned and delivered to take into account the needs of different patient groups and to help provide flexibility, choice and continuity of care.”
Dr Simon Wooding, from the practice, said: “In light of feedback we received on the inspection day we took immediate action to sort out the areas the CQC identified as needing improvement.
“We’re hoping for an early re-inspection to demonstrate the improvements we’ve made and to assure our patients we’ve taken quick, thorough action.
“We care about our patients and providing high quality services for them so we are pleased the CQC highlighted a number of things we can be proud of.”
