Latham House Medical Practice’s Patients’ Reference Group is sharing advice with patients to address the high number of missed appointments, as highlighted in last week’s Melton Times.
Chairwoman of the group, Jane Horn, said: “The leading article in last week’s Melton Times on missed appointments was helpful in drawing attention to a problem that we have recently been highlighting in order to improve the situation.
“We’re very concerned at the number of missed appointments, which in a recent month totalled just over 1,000, and we want to share with all patients ways that we can help to reduce the amount of missed appointments.
“We can all help in two ways. Firstly, if we cannot attend our appointments, we can help by calling the surgery line on (01664) 503000 and pressing option two to cancel the appointment.
“Secondly patients who have given their mobile numbers as contacts will automatically receive a ‘Mjog’ text as a reminder, two days before their appointment time. It would be very helpful if patients could ensure the practice has their correct mobile number so they’re able to receive this message.
“Finally the IT department is also looking at other ways patients can contact the surgery quickly and easily via new IT methods and we all hope this will help to lessen waiting times for all patients. We welcome any further ideas that would help to alleviate this problem.”
